My name is Federico De Matteis, I’m an architect and educator. I have studied architecture in Italy, Germany and the United States, and currently teach at the University of L’Aquila, Italy.

Over the years, my research interests have brought me towards a consideration of the nature of architecture and architectural space as a specific subset of the wider environment. In this sense, I have been studying, writing and investigating how we come in contact with the built strata of the world, how these affect our way of experiencing space, and how sense emerges from this encounter. No wonder then that I have started exploring this issue from various angles, addressing these overwhelming questions from an interdisciplinary perspective.

There are many questions on architecture that need to be looked into, and in this website you will find updates on my work, with published an unpublished texts, projects, drawings and photography. For any questions, feel free to contact me.
